Authorities Investigate Ransomware Attack on West Virginia School Student
At Teays Valley Christian School in Putnam County, West Virginia, a student received an email stating that if a certain file were not downloaded, a “hit list” would be sent out from the student’s email account. Within 20 minutes, the student’s account was accessed by three different IP addresses from three different states. Analysis from the West Virginia Fusion Center shows that the student experienced a “sophisticated” cyberattack, causing the student’s Discord and Google accounts to be compromised.
