Cyberattack from Bulgaria Affects South Portland Schools in Maine
South Portland Public Schools in Maine were forced to take their network down on Sunday after a cyberattack was discovered over the weekend. Based on the IP address the school authorities said that it was a random attack originating from Bulgaria. Officials took the network down in an effort to protect student data and other information that was at risk.
Schools normally have small shoestring budgets for cybersecurity making them susceptible to cyberattacks. Hackers may aim to hold a school’s data hostage for ransom by exploiting vulnerabilities in systems with limited cybersecurity budgets. Read more about this story on our LinkedIn page
