Hackers Who Stole 17 Million Patient Records Demand Deal
PIH Health Downey Hospital, PIH Health Whittier Hospital, PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles as well as the urgent care centers, doctors' offices, and a home health and hospice agency operated by PIH were all hacked on December 1, 2024.
In a typewritten letter allegedly faxed by the cyber criminals late last week, the hackers claim they have retrieved 17 million patient records, including confidential personal and medical information. In their letter, the hackers claimed PIH’s network is “highly vulnerable,” with data stored insecurely on computer servers. The hackers claimed to have stolen about 2 terabytes of materials and have threatened that unless they reach a deal this confidential data will be published on the internet.
