CISA’s Wings to be Clipped Hints Incoming Senate Homeland Security Chair

A plan appears to be afoot to eliminate, or severely curtail the powers of, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). It stems from the accusation that CISA singled out conservative voices and infringed on free speech in its efforts to counter disinformation around the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The Republican Senator Rand Paul who is set to take over as chair of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee wants to overhaul CISA and went as far as to say, “I’d like to eliminate it.”

“The First Amendment is pretty important, that’s why we listed it as the First Amendment, and I would have liked to, at the very least, eliminate their ability to censor content online.” A case had been filed at the Supreme Court to bar CISA and other agencies from working with social media companies to counter disinformation. Jen Easterly, director of the agency, will step down from her position on President-elect Donald Trump's Inauguration Day.
